These 4-ingredient sweet potato dog biscuits are a wonderful healthy treat that I love to make for my two pups, Mabel and Daisy. They’re quick and easy to put together, and this recipe makes a huge batch so always have plenty on hand. Sweet potatoes are loaded with nutrients that protect their vision and can help them maintain a shiny coat. My dogs can’t get enough!

I’ve been getting more and more into making my own homemade dog treats, and my pups can’t seem to get enough! These sweet potato dog biscuits make a huge batch that costs even less than store-bought treats, and they’re made with healthy ingredients with no preservatives or additives.
What’s in This Sweet Potato Dog Biscuit Recipe?
- Sweet Potatoes: Mashed cooked sweet potatoes add moisture and texture to these treats, plus they’re loaded with vitamins, minerals, and fiber! Plain pumpkin puree also works well here.
- Eggs: Help bind the treats together. I like free-range eggs best.
- Unsweetened Applesauce: Adds moisture to the treats. It’s super important to look for an applesauce with just one ingredient– apples! We don’t want any sugar or cinnamon here.
- Whole Wheat Flour: Gives these treats structure. I like whole wheat for the added nutrition, but other types of flours also work.
Tips for Success
- Always remove the skin of the sweet potatoes, as these can be difficult for your dog to digest.
- You can peel the sweet potatoes and cook them in boiling water until tender, or you can roast them and then peel them. Then, you just need to mash them up and mix them with the other ingredients.
- I used a bone-shaped cookie cutter for these treats, but you can use whatever you have to hand.
- Let the treats cool fully before giving them to your dog or storing them.
- These are treats and not meant to replace your dog’s regular meals.
How to Store
Store leftover sweet potato dog biscuits in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks, in the refrigerator for up to 2 months, or in the freezer for up to 8 months. Let thaw overnight in the refrigerator before serving.

Becky’s Tips
- Note: Dogs can have allergies just like people, so while these ingredients are all safe for dogs in general, make sure you know what your furry friend can and cannot eat. I recommend giving them a small bite to test these treats out before you start using them regularly.

Can I use regular white flour or almond flour instead of wheat flour?
Wheat is best for the pups!
You would have to adjust the recipe i fusing almond flour. It requires more eggs to hold it together.
So easy to make and they love them. I did add 1/2 cup of oats since I doubled the mashed sweet potatoes and applesauce. This made it just perfect. Definitely will make again!!

My puppy absolutely LOVES these homemade treats! This recipe is a keeper!
We love happy puppies!
Not sure what a serving is but my 3 dogs ate 3 each.
Some happy pups!
Hi! My dough was very soft and I had to add a lot more flour… what did I do wrong? Regardless my dog loved the end result, but it certainly wasn’t a stiff dough.
Definitely even more flour!
What can I use to replace the applesauce with? Banana? Any other suggestions?
A banana could work!
I used pear.
I haven’t used eggs in dog treats b4. The ones I 1st made had chicken broth instead. She has wheat allergies so I use chickpea flour or coconut flour….even my granddaughter likes them…she’s 2.
Great use of modifications!
Can I use rice flour to substitute the whole wheat flour?
Yes!
Can you use sweet potato purée, and would it still be 1 cup of sweet potato purée?
Thank you.
That could work! Best with no additives!
