BLT

Is there anything better than a good ol’ BLT Sandwich? I think not! It’s one of those sandwiches that is popular for a reason. It’s the perfect combination of ingredients, simple and delicious!

Making your own BLT at home means you can make sure that it’s the best it can be! I always use fresh, crisp lettuce, juicy red tomatoes, and freshly fried bacon. It all comes together with a little mayo between two slices of bread to really hit home every single time!

A classic BLT takes just under half an hour to make and never disappoints.

Why You’ll Love this BLT Sandwich Recipe:

  • CLASSIC: Everyone knows and loves a good BLT! It’s a sandwich that’s earned the title of classic for good reason.
  • FILLING: It’s simple but satiating, and you can add as much bacon as you want to make sure it really hits the spot.
  • SO EASY: This is a recipe that’s hard to mess up! Fry up the bacon, assemble the three key ingredients between the bread with a little mayo, and enjoy. That’s all there is to it!

Bacon, lettuce, and tomato sandwiches seem to have been around forever in American kitchens, and they’re not going anywhere anytime soon. They’ve only gotten more popular with time!

What goes in a BLT sandwich?

A classic BLT contains bacon, lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise.

What is the best bread for a BLT sandwich?

In my opinion, the best bread for a classic BLT is a hearty white bread, such as Texas toast. The great thing about BLTs is that they’re customizable, so feel free to use your favorite bread! This homemade sandwich bread is a great option too.

Should I toast the bread for a BLT before assembling the sandwich?

This is really up to personal preference. If you’re using a nice, thick bread, you shouldn’t need to toast your BLT, but you absolutely can if you want to. If you’re using a thinner or more delicate bread, you may want to toast it so that it doesn’t get soggy too quickly.

How can I keep my BLT sandwich from getting soggy?

A BLT is the perfect bring-to-work sandwich. To keep your sandwich from getting soggy, I recommend packaging all of the components separately and assembling them just before eating. However, if that’s not an option, you may have good luck toasting the bread before assembling the sandwich.

A midday BLT is the perfect lunch. You can easily bring it with you to work, school, or anywhere else you have to be, and it’ll keep you full until dinnertime. Even the kids will love this one!

Make Ahead Instructions

A BLT sandwich is best enjoyed immediately after it is made. I recommend packaging all of the components separately and assembling them just before eating. However, if that’s not an option, you may have good luck toasting the bread before assembling the sandwich.

Storage Instructions

If you plan to have leftovers, I recommend storing each component separately and assembling as you plan to eat them. However, fully-assembled BLT sandwiches will keep well for up to 2 days in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Enjoy cold or reheated in a 300°F toaster oven for 7-10 minutes.

Variations

A classic BLT is a truly perfect sandwich. However, there are endless ways to customize your BLT! Try adding:

Tips for the Best BLT Sandwich

  • For crisp bacon, use thin-cut bacon rather than thick.

Is there any other way to make a BLT though? Add avocado and it’s a BLAT etc… Just seems funny to me. Love your site and your baked taco recipe has been made by my family 4,315 times since we discovered it. :)

There are tons of ways to change up a BLT! More or less bacon; different types of bread, lettuce, tomatoes; different flavored mayos; etc. Like I said, this is just how we like to make a BLT! We’re so glad you’re enjoying the site! The baked tacos are a personal favorite of mine!!
