Baked Cheese Sticks (Ham & Cheese)
This Baked Cheese Sticks Recipe is a healthier take on fried Cheese Sticks. They’re filled with Ham & Cheese for a whole new flavor! It’s such a fun idea for a kids dinner, but you’ll want to sneak a bite or two.
We are BIG fans of mozzarella cheese sticks around here but I don’t really want to be feeding Henry a bunch of fried foods. These are the best of both worlds. They’re easy to make, super flavorful, full of melty cheese, and baked to perfection!
It’s like a ham and cheese sandwich, wrapped up into an easy (and fun) to eat stick.
Healthy Ham & Cheese Sticks Recipe – Baked not Fried!
The best part about these ham & mozzarella cheese sticks is that they’re baked instead of fried. They may not be the epitome of health, but baked mozzarella sticks are infinitely better than their fried counterpart. This mozzarella sticks recipe is so fun to serve at home for the whole family!
If Henry really is my son, then he’s going to LOVE LOVE LOVE cheese. Any kind, any form, any meal. All day every day. I love that this baked mozzarella sticks recipe is an easy and relatively healthy way for kids and adults to get their cheese fix. Wrapped in ham and baked into an eggroll is an amazing way to eat melty cheese. We are big fans of these cheese sticks!
How to Make Cheese Sticks
Making traditional deep-fried mozzarella sticks isn’t the easiest (or healthiest). So instead of how to make mozzarella cheese sticks, I’m going to show you how to make this BAKED Mozzarella Sticks Recipe.

What’s so different about these baked cheese sticks?
- They are BAKED instead of fried

Hi, I am wondering if fresh mozzarella would work as well?
I think it would work but it might have too much moisture. I haven’t tried it so I’m not sure. If you try it please let me know!
I wonder if string cheese would work with these? They are the perfect shape.
It would! Would work great :)
The cheese oozed everywhere but we really enjoyed these, even my 2.5 year old ate one!
I’m sorry the cheese got out! That can happen pretty easily. It took me a couple batches to master the rollup :) I’m glad you guys still loved them!
easy peasy and delicious! Anyone can make these. and everyone will enjoy them
AWESOME! So glad you loved them :)
I want to try these but maybe try Monte Christ0 style. Spread a little raspberry jam inside and Sprinkle with powder sugar at the end.
WOW. That sounds amazing. Wish I would have thought of that in the first place! Thanks for saying hi!!
Very cute idea, but i Got to tell you, we tried these today, and are disappointed. Chewy and tasteless, and took twice as long to cook. Maybe we will try phyllo wrappers and a better quality cheese next time.
Oh darn, I’m so sorry to hear that! We loved them but maybe the flavor was due to the cheese chosen? Again so sorry you didn’t love them. I hope you try other recipes in the future. Thanks for letting me know!
Could you use Tortillas instead of eggroll wraps?
You could! The consistency would be a bit different but that would work :)
eXCELLENT, WE MADE THESE AND USED THEM TO DIP IN SOUP. wE WILL MAKE THESE AGAIN AND AGAIN!
I love the idea of dipping them in soup! So glad you loved them :)
Can you please clarify what you mean by “fold in the sides”? If it’s in a diamond shape, am I laying the ham down from corner to corner and folding in the side corners? Or am i folding in the straight sides? Explanation or a picture, please!
Hi! For the diamond shape, you’ll lay down the ham/cheese, then fold in the left and right diamond corners so that you can create an envelope of sorts with the wrapper. You just want all corners of the ham/cheese fully covered before you bake so nothing melts out. Hope that helps and hope you enjoy!
These look simple & tasty! I can’t wait to make them. I’m planning to serve w a tomato bisque soup, or side of marinara sauce. Question though … can a croissant roll dough be substituted for the egg roll sheets? Thanks! Happy Follower ???? Karen
Yes, of course!
Instead of egg roll wrappers, why not crescent rolls?????
You could do crescent rolls! Would be delicious. Just less of a mozzarella stick feel. Still great :)
BECKY, WHAT IS A MOZZARELLA STICK?
Typically its cheese coated in batter and deep fried, but this version I made baked inside an eggroll wrapper. Hope you enjoy!
Carol
You can buy MOZZARELLA sticks in the cheese sec of the dairy case. They are individually packed
Thanks Angela! Yes that is right. Here is an example: https://www.foodservicedirect.com/product.cfm/p/1935162/Single-String-Cheese-Snack
