I love an easy and semi-healthy appetizer. This bacon wrapped asparagus ticks both boxes! Served simply with bottled Dijon mustard, it’s my go-to 3-ingredient appetizer. It takes 10 minutes to prep and 10 minutes to cook, which makes it so easy to throw together at the last minute when guests are arriving. Plus, everyone I know loves bacon, and it even gets my kids to eat their veggies!

I feel like I’m in the small minority of people who actually likes asparagus, but this bacon wrapped asparagus has converted a lot of my friends and family into believers. When my kids smelled these tasty spears cooking in the oven, they actually asked to try them, and to my surprise, they loved them and asked for seconds! This easy bacon wrapped asparagus is one of my favorite apps of all time!

What’s in This Bacon Wrapped Asparagus Recipe?

  • Asparagus: Thick-sized spears work much, much better than the thin ones.
  • Bacon: Thin-sliced pepper bacon is my favorite choice for this recipe.
  • Mustard: Dijon mustard has a rich flavor that pairs so well with the asparagus and bacon.

Tips for Success

  • Use thick asparagus and trim off the woody ends.
  • Wrap the bacon tightly around the asparagus so that it’s secure and doesn’t become unraveled.
  • Bake in a preheated oven for the best results.

How to Store and Reheat

Store leftover bacon wrapped asparagus in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Reheat in a 350°F oven for 5-7 minutes, or until warmed through and crispy.

Should I soak asparagus before cooking it?

There’s no need to soak the asparagus before cooking it!

How much do you cut off of the asparagus?

You just need to trim the tough ends off the asparagus spears and so that the spears are the same length. If the asparagus has tough outer skin, peel the spears starting halfway down and to the end. (Most asparagus doesn’t need to be peeled.). Don’t get rid of the woody stems by bending them til they snap – you can lose a lot of the good parts of the vegetable this way.

Why is my asparagus soggy?

If your asparagus spears are uneven thicknesses or the bacon is too thick, they may turn out soggy.

Is asparagus keto-friendly?

Here’s the good news for those following a low-carb diet or on keto – there’s only 1g of carbs in three of these bacon-wrapped asparagus! Less than 150 calories too and they have no added sugar so they are great for people following many diets.
