Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookies
I’m THRILLED to be an 2016 Reynolds Ambassador this year. Is there any better company on the planet! They’ve been walking me through this whole baking adventure and I couldn’t be more honored. You might remember my Salted Caramel Soft Batch Cookies from earlier in the year, one of my favorite recipes on the site! For that recipes, I used Reynolds® Parchment Paper and it worked like a charm.
For this recipe, I used the ultra convenient Reynolds® Cookie Baking Sheets. They are already pre-cut to fit standard sized baking sheets, and I’m OBSESSED. They lie flat, are nonstick (so no spray needed!), and help to make your cookies evenly cooked every time. It’s the perfect tool for mess-free cooking. These cookies are so loaded with chocolate chips I worried they would stick, and they didn’t at all. My usually finicky oven cooked them all to perfection and I couldn’t be happier. Thanks Reynolds!
How to Make Applesauce Chocolate Chip Cookies
Okay back to the cookies. There’s so much to love, I don’t know where to start with these applesauce chocolate chip cookies. The batter just is so smooth and delicious. YUM! Next, let’s talk about how easy these cookies are to make. Prep is super quick, then you just let them bake in the oven, and next thing you know, you’ve got amazing chocolate chip cookies ready to eat!
- Using a stand mixer, mix butter and sugar into a smooth and fluffy consistency.
- Add in the applesauce and continue mixing.
- Set mixer to low speed, add in baking soda, salt, vanilla extract, & 1 cup of flour, and mix.
- Add in the 2nd cup of flour and mix just until incorporated (do not over mix).
- Use a spoon to mix in the chocolate chips by hand.
- Use a 1 inch scoop to make cookies, and drop on to a baking sheet.
- Bake 12-15 minutes at 375°F.

Can you substitute applesauce for eggs in chocolate chip cookies?
Yes, you can easily use applesauce in place of eggs when baking chocolate chip cookies. A general guideline is 1/4 cup of applesauce for each egg in a recipe. Since this recipe is all about the applesauce, you don’t have to do any measuring of your own or make any substitutions. I’ve found the perfect ratio for these cookies!

Are these applesauce cookies vegan?
As the recipe stands, no they are not vegan. But there are no eggs in these chocolate chip cookies, so we’re about half-way there! Just use a vegan butter substitute and dairy-free chocolate chips (like dark chocolate chips), and you’re good to go!

Applesauce Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients
- ½ cup unsalted butter 113 grams, room temperature (1 stick)
- 1 cup granulated sugar 200 grams
- 1 cup cinnamon applesauce 250 grams, room temperature
- 1 teaspoon baking soda 6 grams
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract 4 grams
- 2 cups all-purpose flour 240 grams
- 1 cup milk chocolate chips 170 grams, Ghirardelli recommended
- ½ cup semisweet chocolate chips 85 grams, Ghirardelli recommended
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F. Line a baking sheet with a precut Reynolds Cookie Baking Sheet. Set aside.
- In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, cream the butter with the sugar until smooth and fluffy.½ cup unsalted butter, 1 cup granulated sugar
- Pour in the applesauce and continue to beat until fully mixed.1 cup cinnamon applesauce
- Add in the baking soda, salt, vanilla extract, and 1 cup of the flour. Place the mixer on a lower setting and beat until combined. Add in the remaining cup of flour and beat until just mixed. You don't want to overmix the dough.2 cups all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon baking soda, ½ teaspoon kosher salt, 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- Use a spoon or spatula to fold in the chocolate chips.1 cup milk chocolate chips, ½ cup semisweet chocolate chips
- Use a cookie scoop to drop the cookies onto the baking sheet, about 1-2 inches apart.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the cookies are just golden brown and baked through.
- Repeat with the remaining dough.
- Let the cookies cool on a wire rack to room temperature.

baked the cookies this morning! The only change i made was to reduce the sugar to 1/2 cup. I added 1/2 cup of flaxmeal. The cookies are Melt in your mouth texture and taste. Thick and soft. My husband says this receipe is a keeper.

Where does the 8 grams protein come from, that’s listed in the nutritional facts?
Just loved the recipe and tried it out but they were soft… Any idea why?
I searched for an apple sauce cookie not thinking there would be many out there and I LOVED how simple your recipe is that I had to try it. I used a Flax and Ancient Grain gluten free flour, unsweetened applesauce, 1/4 cup of chocolate chips, coconut sugar and I crossed my fingers. I only made a half batch just in case, but I’m SO happy to report that with my substitutions they stayed together and came out almost fluffy and oh so delicious! Yummy little pillows of goodness! Thank you for the recipe! I needed something egg free and subbing with the rest of my dietary needs still made a beautiful cookie.
These sounded great (less calories! woo!) and then I plugged the numbers into MFP, and they only have like 5 calories less than my favorite nutella chocolate chip cookies (at around 150 calories a piece). :( Ugh, why can’t we get a chocolate chip cookie that only has like 50 calories, lol! :) I can’t stop at just one!
Outstanding cookies! Recipe is quick, easy, and results in some of the best cookies to leave my oven. And I love they use applesauce – I have to eat several a day to ensure I’m getting a serving of fruit… :)

I had to make this recipe as soon as I read it. Delicious! I followed your recipe exactly (including using the Reynolds Baking Sheets- LOVE them!!) but my cookies spread out a lot more than yours did. Anything specific you did to help them keep their shape? Thanks for the great recipes! :)
Was your butter too soft? If it was close to a melted state, that would cause your cookies to spread.
