What’s in these 3-Ingredient Cat Treats?
You only need 3 ingredients to make these healthy homemade cat treats. And you might already have them all in your pantry!
- Salmon: Use canned salmon for this recipe, or another canned fish.
- Egg: Beat the yolk and whites together before combining with the flour.
- Flour: I recommend using whole wheat flour for these nutritious cat treats.
I love that these are real food ingredients, so I know my cat, Dill, is getting the best of the best!
It was such an honor to have this cat treats recipe printed in the August 2015 edition of Family Circle Magazine.
Any canned, oily fish will work in this recipe, and your kitty will thank you for being so creative. Try tuna, mackerel, or even canned shrimp! You can also substitute canned chicken.
If you want the goldfish shaped cutter I used, Here’s my affiliate link to get one. If you prefer, use any cookie cutter that is about 3/4-inch.
Add up to 1/3 cup of water to the dough if it’s too dry. If it’s too wet or sticky, add in a small amount of flour until you get the right consistency. It should be tacky but not sticky.
They should be slightly brown and crunchy on the outside.
How to Store Homemade Cat Treats
Let the treats cool completely before storing. Scoop them into an airtight container, like a mason jar, or resealable bags. Store them at room temperature or in the pantry, for up to 2 weeks.
They’ll be ready to hand out to your furry friend any time they need a treat. And these are healthy enough for them to eat (many) every day, so you can feel good about spoiling them!

I dont gave whole wheat flour, can i substitite with something else?
You can use regular flour but some cats do have allergies so just give a little at first to make sure he/she reacts well :)
How many treats does one batch make? Thank you
A ton lol. I didn’t count them but it was a lot of treats because they’re so tiny
Where on earth did you find a 3/4 cookie cutter? I have searched high and low!
Here are the ones I used :) http://amzn.to/2BhzfOU
Where can you get the fish cutter?
Hi there! Do you keep these in the fridge or on tje counter? And good for about two weeks?
I just made these. My kitten will not stay off the counter top and has tried to stick his head in the mixing bowl. They have to be good.
In fairness, every cat has different tastes and you never know what they will like. I used up half the dough and baked the treats. I knew already my one cat Pluto would never go near it. My other cat Callie (otherwise known as Miss Tubby) is a feline garbage pail!!! Anyhow, she did carefully eat one and seemed to like it. I was disappointed that she did not chow down on it like she would on the commercial made and fattening treats! I went back to the kitchen to cook the remaining dough and much to my shock, most of it was gone! Callie was on the counter licking her paws with a smirk on her face. She definitely likes the uncooked dough treats! I do not know if this is healthy for her but I must say with only 3 ingredients, she should be all right. Just a thought.
Hi! I’m very excited to give your recipe a try. I have 6 cats so I’m sure at least one will enjoy them(: I was wondering if regular flour would work or if it would hurt them in any way?
Can these be frozen for later use? It made so many and I only have 1 cat.!!! By the way my dogs love them too.
These are super cute! Would I be able to substitute coconut flour for the wheat flour if I added an extra egg? If not, how would you suggest I substitute the wheat? Thanks!
